let me introduce myself
WHY I LOVE SOCIAL
Would you believe me if I told you I remember exactly where I was the day Instagram launched?
I remember exactly where I was when Instagram launched: In my friend’s kitchen, eating a deli sandwich (with salt and vinegar chips) as we navigated our junior year of high school.
I created my account that day, knowing that it was a platform that was going to change the narrative of social media forever. Upon graduating college, social media was the one field that I knew I wanted to fully experience. I took a chance and hit the ground running with a social fellowship and instantly felt that this was the field where I belonged. The rush I felt from finding my professional belonging was similar to the giddy feeling when you fire out a breaking news tweet that you know is too good because it's both hilarious and true.
Working as a social media professional and audience development specialist over the last eight years, I’ve experienced being built up (nothing like watching something go viral), being torn down (those comment sections can be brutal), and experimenting with new brand voices, videos, graphics, and the occasional meme. It is a profession that favors the creative, the multitasker, the organized, and the confident. You have to trust your gut, try, fail, write, and rewrite best practices.
I’ve been exposed and tasked with building brand voices, editorial content, publishing, and scheduling content. I’ve played a role in developing audience development teams and strategies for companies to evolve a front-facing social presence.
I have a passion for humanizing content. At the end of the day, we’re all people, absorbing content faster than we realize. It has been said that the average human attention span has dropped in recent years from twelve down to eight seconds. And no wonder: Waiting eight seconds for a web page to load seems excruciating.
Social media is a profession that requires one to adapt, grow and learn with the times. I love to get into the minds of the consumer and deliver content that engages and delights them.
